US Department of Education IGNORES Complaint Against
Lomitas Elementary School

The US Department of Education REFUSED to consider the
fact that Lomitas Elementary School was investigated by their very own Office
for Civil Rights. What's wrong with this picture? Apparently, one hand
refuses to acknowledge that the other exists.
The follow letter was received from Stefan
Rosenzweig, Director, San Francisco Enforcement Office, Western Division, United
States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR). You will note
that, on March 13, 1999 a letter was sent to the United States Department of
Education, Office for Civil Rights requesting that all materials regarding the
investigation against Lomitas Elementary School be forwarded to the United
States Department of Education's Office of Education, Research, and Improvement
(OERI) - the department that bestows the National Blue Ribbon School Award upon
schools that practice discrimination (oops). OERI was also aware of the
situation. As the following letter will attest, it took OCR TWO MONTHS to
send their response that they would send these materials only based upon a
direct response from OERI and that they had not received such a request. Clearly,
as the US Dept. of Education, OERI was fully aware of the situation, it was
their intent to grant the "Blue Ribbon Award" to a school that they
refused to investigate!
