Supt. Ron Butler left the Stephenville Independent School District $3 million in the red and in danger of having a state monitor come in and oversee the district's finances. Taxes had to be raised to the limit to enable the district to meet the next school year's bills. All out-of-town travel to workshops was prohibited. Most probationary teachers lost their jobs. And the community has yet to receive an explanation of where the $3 million dollars went. Yet, in De Leon, Texas, a neighboring school district, the school board hired ex Supt. Butler to conduct their yearly budget workshop and then hired him again to conduct their superintendent search! Guess Mark Twain knew this school board when he said, "First God created idiots. That was for practice. Then he created school boards."
