        . . .oh heck, what does it matter - they're a "California Distinguished School!"

And they certainly fit the profile for that honor - as yet another school that has been found in in violation of Federal law by the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights!

Parent Prevails Against

Bonita Unified School District

again and Again and AGAIN!

 

This "California Distinguished School" first appeared on the ASEE site back on October 26, 2001 when we issued a news release on a complaint filed against Lone Hill Middle School and the Bonita Unified School District when they refused to reinstate services for a student who had been illegally exited from special education with neither his father's knowledge nor consent. Furthermore, the father first learned of the district's illegal actions months after the fact.

January 31, 2002 - California Department of Education determines Bonita Unified School District is in NON-COMPLIANCE with California Education Code.

May 3, 2002 - California Department of Education finds Bonita Unified School District OUT-OF-COMPLIANCE again!

January 31, 2003 - United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights determines that Bonita Unified School District is OUT-OF-COMPLIANCE with several Federal laws!

January 31, 2003 - OCR provides copy of the "Voluntary Resolution Plan" (all districts "agree" to these as they know they OCR has the ability to withhold all Federal monies from their budgets if they don't), signed by Ann Sparks, Assistant Superintendent, Business Services, Bonita Unified School District. Take a look at some of the things this disgusting District now must do - as  a direct result of this complaint, EVERY special needs child will benefit for many years to come!
