English/UK Advocates for Ethical Behavior!

As the site will demonstrate, the English are making greater progress in fighting the corruption in their schools than we are.

Bully OnLine (listed below) reports that, "since 1996, teachers and lecturers have been the largest group of enquirers to the UK National Workplace Bullying Advice Line and Bully OnLine. In the majority of cases, the head teacher is a serial bully with a record of destroying staff; in such cases, bullying is endemic within the school. Some teacher cases (Darlington Borough Council, Pembrokeshire County Council, Harrogate Grammar School)."

bulletBritish Broadcasting Corporation - Exemplary Education News Coverage

The American Society for Ethics in Education wishes to commend the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for their exemplary work in bringing the atrocities suffered by English educators while trying to teach children. Unlike their American counterparts, the BBC regularly reports on the horrors within the British education system. The BBC is also unafraid to report on the severe stress related illnesses of their educators. Here are just a few examples of the responsible reporting that occurs in England:

bulletBig Payout for Stressed Teacher (May 11, 2000) - This poor man has suffered SEVERELY at the hands of yet another vicious administrator. Unlike American teachers, however, this educator had assistance from his union.
bullet"Schools Stress Inquiry Urged" (April 24, 2000) - This article, from the BBC News documents that work place stress kills and disables teachers.  American teachers will want to read this article!
bullet"Academics' Poor Mental Health" (April 23, 2000) - Massive mental suffering in English Universities.
bullet"Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) Accused Over Teacher Stress" (April 17, 2000) - School Inspections Result in Suicide by Teachers.
bullet"Teacher Commits Suicide After Inspection" (April 6, 2000) - Endless paperwork and massive school stress kills 30 year veteran teacher.
bullet"Stress Forces Teachers to Quit" (February 29, 2000) - "More than half of England's teachers expect to leave the profession within a decade because of stress, bureaucracy, and heavy workloads."
bullet"Classroom Stress for Primary Teachers" (December 10, 1999) - This article reports that primary teachers experience more stress than secondary teachers.
bullet"Ex-Teacher Wins Damages for Stress" (September 30, 1999) - In England, unions HELP their teachers! Find out how.
bullet"Teaching Caused My Breakdown" (September 8, 1999) - Institutional abuse forces teacher to quit.
bullet"Helpline for Teachers Established" (September 8, 1999) - Read about how the English help their teachers. The American Society for Ethics in Education is dreaming about creating a similar help line someday. (Anyone want to provide funding?)
bullet"Princess Amazed by "Parent Rage" (April 23, 1999) - Princess Anne describes verbal assaults on teachers by parents.
bullet"Teachers Demand Action Over Abuse Slurs" (April 9, 1999) - This article is almost too horrible to read. "There's a forgotten army out there, wounded and hurt, whose careers have been ruined.
bullet"School Racism is Alive and Kicking" (April 5, 1999) - Primary teacher is knocked unconscious while leaving her primary school.
bullet"Stressed-out Teachers Demand Action" (April 2, 1999) - Teachers have breakdowns and take Early Retirement.

bulletBully OnLine - "Those that Can, Do. Those that Can't, Bully." - This well established site, demonstrates that the problems faced in American schools are not unique to the US. Unfortunately, American's appear to be LESS aware of the real horrors in our schools are our international friends.
bulletTake a look at Bully Online's Media Page - You will see the ENORMOUS amount of press that workplace bullying gets in England. ASEE challenges the American Press to do the same.
bulletBully Online receives more requests for help from teachers, especially from the United States, Canada, and Australia than ANY OTHER group! As a result, Bully OnLine has a page devoted specifically to teachers seeking help.
bulletBully Dissolver! - A new English web site that " aims to provide help and support to employees in the educational sector who find themselves in the unfortunate position of being bullied. The website also extends its help and support to the spouses of bullied targets, who are often known as 'Unseen Heroes'."
bulletThe Campaign Against Bullying - Ireland's premier web site on harassment in the workplace.
bulletProfessor Peter Smith, BA PhD CPsychol FBPsS, Department of Psychology, Goldsmiths College, University of London. Dr. Smith has been doing international research on bullying in schools.
bulletTeacherline - "Teacherline is a pioneering new service that offers all teachers in England and Wales confidential, counseling support and advice."
bulletThe Times Educational Supplement "is the UK's foremost weekly publication covering the world of primary, secondary and further education, as well as being the market leader for job advertising. Its news reporting and background analysis cover a diverse range of issues from curriculum changes to Government funding."
