It's Time to Extinguish the
"California Distinguished School" Dog and Pony Show!

Staying true to it's recent history of exalting schools that abuse children and teachers, the California Department of Education continues to honor schools and districts that violate the law and basic human decency! In honor of the CDE's repugnant promotion of such schools, ASEE will now provide a "special place" on our site to highlight what the CDE calls the "state's most exemplary and inspiring public schools."

In the opinion of ASEE, the "Distinguished School Award" is nothing less than a dog and pony show that honors "schools" that are willing to waste hundreds/thousands of hours completing massive amounts of paperwork expounding upon how "wonder" they are instead of teaching children. It is nothing less than a publicity stunt for the state and many schools/districts to cover-up the real horrors found in our schools.  As the CDE seems to gravitate towards many schools that actually violate the law (!!!!), ASEE will now document many of these horrors on our site.

So, just how distinguished are these "schools?"

bulletLone Hill Middle School, Bonita Unified School District. Both the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights and the California Department of Education, Special Education Division finds this "Distinguished School" OUT OF COMPLIANCE with Federal and State law!
bulletLomitas Elementary School, Victor Elementary School District. Not one but two schools from the Victor Elementary School District are "nominated" for the 2002 "Distinguished School Award, " on March 6, 2002, while the district is being monitored, by the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, because they retaliated against a former teacher at one of those schools, Lomitas Elementary, for reporting the school on charges of racism and discrimination!  That's right, the CDE actually "nominates" these schools while their still being monitored!
